An Ode To...
Sheryl Crow
she's a rocker, a survivor, and an early detection advocate.
After a routine checkup at the age of 43, Sheryl Crow was in the midst of ending her engagement with Lance Armstrong and newly had been diagnosed with Stage I breast cancer. Immediately she postponed her tour- leaving her love and passion behind- to report to surgery which was followed by seven weeks of radiation therapy.
Sheryl has always taken care of herself and her body- working out and eating right- and has a beautiful down to earth spirit, so it's easy to believe that she chose to supplement radiation with acupuncture and herbal teas. Her routine check ups caught the cancer early enough to save her from needing chemotherapy; which has taught her the importance of early detection and makes her the advocate that she is today.
"As I learned more about breast cancer, mammography, and early detection,
it was obvious that much of the system was still fragmented and, simply
put, broken. Even though I had dodged my own cancer bullet, the stories
I heard from many other survivors clearly reminded me that there was
much to be done for women in America. Many of the problems with the
breast health system in this country are inherently due to a disunited
approach for the most part, centers ignore the value of comprehensive
care, they employ failing business models and lack technological
sophistication. "

"In 2007, Crow petitioned Congress to fund research into possible links between breast cancer and environmental factors." Health
Thankfully, support is out there and it's growing and improving every day. Reaching out, giving back, and simply smiling to those in need are the most precious gifts anyone can give. Be a part of it.
Wishing all of you a beautiful weekend,
