Growing up we all heard it from our mothers “chocolate will make you break out, and make your skin oily!” I always listen to my mothers usually wise words, except when it came to the matter of my beloved chocolate.
No matter how bad my day might seem or how yucky I may feel- a rich decadent piece of dark chocolate always lifts my spirits. We all know during a break up or during that dreaded time of the month a little piece will never fail you.
After doing some research I have found that this “chocolate myth” is not only out dated but the effects it can have are very beneficial for you. Dark chocolate is filled with anti oxidants around 8 times the amount of strawberries and raises your serotonin levels, leaving you in a better mind frame. It also contains flavonoids which help decrease your blood pressure.
As far as the skin goes, coca butter and fatty acids which happen to be very rich in glycerides that not only softens the skin but deliver moisturizing lipids which plump and firm the skin. Many spas are now using chocolate skin treatments to improve skin tone and over all elasticity.
Next time you think about passing on that piece of delicious chocolate--get the silly myths out of your head, because you could be doing your body and mind a bigger favor than you think!
